Infinitely Closer | T.H.E Dance Company
Role: Projection Engineer/Operator | South Korea April 2025, Singapore-South Korea's 50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations, Sejong Grand Theater, Seoul
Directed and choreographed by T.H.E’s founding artistic director Kuik Swee Boon, and rooted in his signature HollowBody™ methodology, Infinitely Closer《无限的接近》ignites a sensory journey like no other. This full-length production combines contemporary dance with the mesmerising visual interplay of evocative holographic designs by Hong Kong- and Macau-based projection artists SEESAW and the immersive sonic waves of three-dimensional sound engineered by Guo Ningru.
As the audience ventures boldly into the performance space, they are met with the raw authenticity and nuanced precision of T.H.E’s seven performers donned in intricately-designed outfits by Korean costume designer Choi In Sook. Malaysian sound artist Kent Lee's soul-stirring soundtrack permeates the space, which is brilliantly lit by Singaporean lighting designer Adrian Tan, enveloping the audience in an immersive experience—one that casts a piercing gaze upon the boundaries of human expression, urges us to reconnect with our childlike wonder, and resonates deep within the soul.
We long to navigate the multiple identities that seem to define us, and unveil the true essence of freedom that lies dormant deep within. But do we dare to confront the encroaching shadows of apathy and the enigmatic whispers of societal intricacies that we face in today’s world?
Infinitely Closer《无限的接近》was commissioned by Esplanade's da:ns festival 2022, and marked the opening of Esplanade’s new Singtel Waterfront Theatre.
